ABSTRACTn It is noticed that the fire safety standards in Brazil are generic and outdated in relation to the international context, therefore, this work aims to present an approach with greater relevance to the area of ​​fire safety. In this way, research was carried out within international concepts to verify the methods used when preparing a fire prevention project. We arrived at the concepts of released heat rate, used for prevention projects in an international context, and fire load, adopted in Brazil to design fire protection equipment. In this way, this work showed the difference between the two concepts through calculations, standards and scientific articles. For the results, a relation between the rate of mass loss and the combustion heat, which resulted in the rate of heat released, was also analyzed through the book Barbraukas and Kransny (1895) and NPT 14 (2018). HRR, fire growth rate, growth time, growth factor and maximum energy release from a foam sofa, stack of pallets and lounge chair. This resulted in the foam sofa having a higher rate of fire growth with a range of 1055 kW in 77.96 seconds and the stack of pallets and the resting chair reached the average growth rate, but maximum energy release, with 3600 kW and 700 kW. growth time, growth factor and maximum energy release from a foam sofa, stack of pallets and lounge chair.
